She's Happy Hair founder and CEO Warren Broadnax is the latest feature from Cosign Magazine, the media brand telling the real stories behind today's fastest-growing companies. In a new interview and profile titled "$900 to Multi-Million Dollar Brand: The Real Story of She's Happy Hair," Warren walks through the version of this company's story that doesn't usually make it into a press release: the firefighter shift he left behind, the friend who told him hair could pay more in a weekend than a paycheck, and the years it took to build the #1 virgin hair supplier in the United States.

Warren Broadnax on Why the Story Includes the Struggle
"Most people only show you entrepreneurship after the win. We made a decision to document the uncertainty, the setbacks, the rebuilds, the growth, and everything in between. The journey is the story."
— Warren Broadnax, Founder & CEO, She's Happy Hair
From Houston Firefighter to $18 Million in Revenue
Before hair, Warren Broadnax was working as a firefighter in Houston. A friend told him something that stuck: people were making $4,000 in a single weekend selling hair. Warren and a partner pooled together $900, bought their first batch of inventory, and got to work.
The early days were rough. Some of that first inventory wasn't good enough to sell in good conscience, so instead of quietly moving on, Warren refunded customers and asked what he'd gotten wrong. That's the version of the story Cosign Magazine's feature captures, the version most companies leave out.
There was no storefront yet, just daily Craigslist ads and deliveries at all hours. When the first office finally opened, it was 400 square feet with $400 rent. Warren still spent $2,000 a month on radio ads, making a small operation sound a lot bigger than it was. By early 2013, the business was doing $3,000 a day. A few years later, She's Happy Hair had grown to seven locations across eight markets in Houston and Detroit, doing roughly $18 million a year.
Why Warren Broadnax Is Still Telling the Whole Story
Warren's focus these days isn't just on running the business, it's on documenting it. That's the idea behind The Happy Hustle, a reality series he and his team built to show entrepreneurship as it actually happens: the uncertainty, the setbacks, the rebuilds, right alongside the wins. It's also part of why he's kept community work like Chocolate Santa going. That kind of initiative doesn't show up on a balance sheet, but it says a lot about what the company is actually built around.
